Abstract

How financial investments in higher education institutions can impact their research outcomes? The primary focus of this study is to explore the intricate relationship between university expenditures and research outcomes. This investigation utilizes data derived from two reputable sources: the European Tertiary Education Register (ETER) and CWTS Leiden bibliometrics. By analyzing this extensive dataset, the study unveils substantial disparities in spending per student among various institutions listed in ETER. Furthermore, it sheds light on a non-linear relationship between expenditures and research productivity, suggesting a fascinating concept – that increased investments may potentially lead to disproportionately higher research performance.
